Dixie Chicks - Not Ready To Make Nice
Year:2006
This was the first single from the album 'Taking the Long Way'.
It remains the Chicks's biggest hit in the US to date.
On February 11, 2007, it won three Grammy Awards in the categories of Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
The background of the song had also lot to do with the attention.
Controversy erupted over the Dixie Chicks in 2003 following a critical comment vocalist Natalie Maines made of the American President George W. Bush and the war, while performing in a concert in London, United Kingdom.
This lead to negative publicity and band received death threats during the 2003 Top of the World Tour. This all can be found in the lyrics of the song and is well documented in the documentary 'Shut Up and Sing'.
The music video uses the contrast of dark and white colors.
Metaphors are used throughout the video, such as Natalie painting the white clothes of the other two band members, Martie and Emily, with black paint, which symbolizes the boycott of the band.
There is a character of priest as well as other individuals who by their moral values are judging the band members. Video very much concentrates in the inner struggles of Natalie, and her fight to find peace with the issue...
